What can the AI tutor do?

Updated

The AI tutor is Aniko's built-in SAT tutor. Chat with it to understand a question, plan your studying or change your study plan. In the app it's called Aniko. It knows your plan and scores, so its answers fit where you are.

It isn't a human: for account or billing problems, see Contact Aniko support.

Where to find it

  • On Home, type in "Chat with Aniko, ask anything...". On a phone, tap the round A button at the bottom of the screen first.
  • In a study session, Review Lab, lesson or practice test review, the chat sits beside the question. Click Open Chat if it's hidden, or Ask Aniko under an explanation.

What it can do

  • Explain questions and concepts. In a session, it sees the question you're on. It starts with hints and steps, so you can work it out yourself. See Get help when you're stuck on a question.
  • Read screenshots. Click Attach images next to the message box, or paste an image: up to 4 PNG, JPEG or WebP images per message, 5 MB each. It can't open PDFs.
  • Change your test date, study days or target score. It asks you first, because a new test date or study days restart your plan completion and can change your Score Guarantee.
  • Add tasks: study sessions, Review Labs and practice tests on the days you choose.
  • Move or delete tasks you haven't started yet.
  • Pass on feedback. Tell it about a bug or an idea, and it sends a report to the Aniko team.

Tasks it adds don't count toward plan completion or the Lock-In Challenge, and unstarted ones are removed when your plan is rebuilt. See How is my study plan built?

What it sees about you

It knows your study plan, your scores and how you're doing on each skill, so its answers fit where you are. In a session or test review, it also sees the question or results in front of you.

Does it remember?

Partly. Each chat keeps its own conversation: the one on Home, each study session or Review Lab, each lesson and each test review. It can also remember a few things you tell it, like a goal, across chats. In a long chat, repeat anything important. For who can see your chats, see Who can see my chats with the AI tutor?

What it can't do

Message limits

On the Free and Essential plans, every message you send counts toward your limit, including a suggestion you click that sends a message for you, such as Hint the meaning of the words or Explain this like I'm 5 years old. The help buttons don't use messages: Give me a hint, Explain step-by-step, Desmos tip and Strategy. Neither do your Game Plan and the feedback after a session or test.

The Free plan includes 10 messages a week, Essential includes more, and Premium and Unfair Advantage include unlimited messages. See Aniko plans compared.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, like any tutor. If an answer doesn't add up, check the question's explanation, or report the question with the flag at the top (Something look off?).

We don't share which AI models power the tutor. It's set up for SAT prep and works from your own plan, scores and recent work.

Aniko takes you to Home and shows "You've used all your AI tutor messages." Until your limit resets, reopen your session from Home: the help buttons and explanations still work.

Not in the chat. Ask for practice on a topic, and it links you to a new study session or Review Lab, or adds one to your plan, where new questions count toward your score estimate.
