How does the score estimate work?
Updated
Your score estimate is Aniko's best guess at what you'd score on the SAT right now, from 400 to 1600, with a score for Reading and Writing and one for Math. It comes from your work in study sessions and practice tests, and it updates each time you finish one.
You'll find it on Home as Current Score Estimate, and on the SAT scores chart as Aniko Estimate, next to the official SAT and Bluebook scores you add. It isn't your predicted or guaranteed score. See Score estimate, predicted score and guaranteed score.
What counts
- Your first answer to each question. If a question comes back, in a Review Lab or a collection, your answer doesn't change your estimate. In a study session, only your first Check counts.
- Study sessions and practice tests, counted when you finish them.
- Questions you leave blank in a practice test count as wrong, as they do on the SAT.
Give each question a real try before you ask for help. Your estimate is most accurate when your first answer is your own, and hints, explanations and the AI tutor help most once you've tried.
Your first estimate
Your first estimate appears after you finish a full or half practice test, or once you've answered enough questions in every domain. Until then, Home shows "Take a practice test to unlock your first score estimate."
Why it moves
Your estimate updates when you finish a study session or practice test, from your first answers in it. Misses count as well as right answers, so it can go down as well as up.
To raise it, practice new questions on your weakest skills and fix your mistakes in Review Labs, so you don't repeat them. Your study plan does both for you. To find your weak spots, see Use Analytics to find your weak spots.
The range
Under your estimate you'll see a range, like 1400 to 1530: where your score could land if you took the SAT now.
Mastery and the score estimate
Mastery shows how well you know each skill and each of the 8 SAT domains. Your score estimate looks at all of them together, so a session can raise one skill's mastery a lot while your overall estimate barely moves.
Frequently asked questions
No. Nobody can reset or type in a score estimate, including our team. It comes only from your work on Aniko, so it reflects what you can do now, and your study plan and Score Guarantee rely on it. To see an official SAT or Bluebook score next to your estimate, see Add an official SAT or Bluebook score.
A Bluebook practice test is one sitting on one day, while your estimate combines your work across many sessions and tests, so a gap between them is normal. See Is my score estimate accurate? Bluebook vs Aniko.
