How do Aniko practice tests work?

Updated

A practice test is a timed rehearsal of the SAT. Aniko's full practice test has the same structure as the digital SAT: a Reading and Writing section of 54 questions in 64 minutes, a 10-minute break, then a Math section of 44 questions in 70 minutes. It gives you a Test Score from 400 to 1600.

Half and short tests are shorter versions for days when you don't have 2 hours. Every test you finish updates your score estimate.

How a test is built

Each section is split into modules, timed blocks of questions. Here's how the 3 lengths compare.

Any test with both sections has a 10-minute break between them. Full and half tests give you a Test Score. A short test is too short to score on its own, so it updates your score estimate instead, and Short appears only once you have one.

In a full test, module 2 adapts to you: it's harder if you do well on module 1 and easier if not, as on the SAT. Both modules count toward your score.

Tests use only questions you haven't answered on Aniko, from all 8 SAT domains in about the SAT's proportions. Math has the Desmos calculator and a reference sheet, as in Bluebook. See What's on the SAT? and Use the Desmos calculator.

Start a test

  1. On Home, click Practice Test.
  2. Choose Both, Only Reading or Only Math, then click Next.
  3. Choose Short, Half or Full. For a full test, click Start Test.
  4. For a short or half test, click Next, choose Easy, Medium or Hard, then click Start Test.
  5. On the start page, if you have extended time, choose it under Accessibility accommodation.
  6. Click Start to begin the test.

If you have College Board-approved accommodations, set your extended time once in Settings > Accessibility: Extended Time: 1.5× (time and a half) or 2× (double time). Every test then uses it for every module and the break.

Tests in your study plan

Your plan adds full tests as often as your Practice Tests setting in Study Plan Settings says, on the days you pick. 1x / week is recommended. A full-test day holds only the test. On plans with unlimited practice tests, your plan also adds short tests as progress checks.

Tests you start yourself, from Home or added to a day on Study Plan, update your scores like plan tests but don't count toward plan completion.

During and after a test

  • Pause: click Pause at the top of the test to stop the timer. Switching tabs or closing your laptop doesn't pause the test. See Pause and resume a practice test.
  • Results: when you finish, Aniko opens your results, with feedback and every question's explanation. See Read your practice test results.
  • Limits: every practice test you start counts toward your plan's test limit, finished or not. Its questions don't use your question allowance. See Free plan limits.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Choose Only Reading for Reading and Writing, or Only Math, at any length. A full or half test with one section gives you a section score from 200 to 800. To unlock your predicted score, you need a full test with both sections.

Usually it's the Lock-In Challenge: its final days each need a full practice test. Otherwise, your Practice Tests setting may be 2x / week or 3x / week.
