- How long is the SAT, and how is it structured?The digital SAT takes 2 hours 14 minutes plus a 10-minute break. It has 98 questions in 2 sections, each with 2 modules, and the second module adapts to you.
- What's on the SAT?The SAT has 2 sections, Reading and Writing and Math, each covering 4 content domains. There's no essay and no science section.
- How is the SAT scored? Is it curved?The SAT is scored from 400 to 1600, with 200 to 800 for each section. It isn't curved against other students, and there's no penalty for wrong answers.
- When should I take the SAT?College Board recommends taking the SAT in spring of junior year and again in fall of senior year. Most students study for 2 to 3 months first.
- Which calculators are allowed on the SAT?Bluebook has a Desmos calculator built in. You can also bring a graphing, scientific or 4-function calculator, but not a CAS model or a phone.
- What to bring to the SAT on test dayBring your charged device with Bluebook set up, your admission ticket, a physical photo ID, pencils or pens and your College Board login.
- When do SAT scores come out?Weekend SAT scores come out about 2 weeks after test day, on a release date College Board sets for each test. See the 2026-27 dates here.
- How many times can you take the SAT?As many times as you want. There's no limit, and College Board recommends taking the SAT at least twice, in spring of junior year and fall of senior year.
