Get help when you're stuck on a question
Updated
When you're stuck in a study session or Review Lab, the chat beside the question can help you work it out without giving the answer away. Use a hint, the strategy, a step-by-step walkthrough or a Desmos tip, or ask the AI tutor.
Use the help buttons
The help buttons sit in the chat beside the question. If the chat is hidden, click Open Chat, or Chat on a phone.
- Give me a hint shows one hint, and Another hint the next. Hints are there until the explanation opens.
- Strategy shows the approach for this kind of question.
- Explain step-by-step walks through the solution, one Next step at a time. Until the explanation opens, it stops before the last step, so the answer stays yours to find.
- Desmos tip, on some Math questions, shows how to solve the question with the Desmos calculator, with Next Desmos tip for more. See Use the Desmos calculator.
If your Check is wrong, the next hint or step appears on its own, and you can try again. These buttons don't use your AI tutor messages, so they keep working when you run out.
Ask the AI tutor
Type your question in the chat, like "Why isn't it B?". The AI tutor sees the question you're on. It starts with hints and steps rather than the answer, so you can reason it through yourself.
On the Free and Essential plans, each message you send counts toward your AI tutor message limit. So does a suggestion that sends a message for you, such as Hint the meaning of the words. See What can the AI tutor do?
After you answer
The explanation shows the correct answer, why each other choice is wrong, starting with yours, and the steps to solve it. Still confused? Click Ask Aniko under the explanation.
To practice the same idea again, click Similar Questions under the correct answer. Pick how many questions you want, and Aniko builds a new study session of questions like this one and adds it to today's plan.
Frequently asked questions
After you've given the question a real try. Your estimate comes from your first Check on each question, and it's most accurate when that answer is your own. When you're stuck, use a hint or Explain step-by-step before you check. See How does the score estimate work?
Yes. After a wrong Check, click Reveal answer to open the explanation. Your first answer still counts as a miss. Try a hint or Explain step-by-step first: working it out is what fixes the mistake.
