Highlight, cross out answers and mark for review

Updated

Every question on Aniko has tools at the top: a highlighter for Reading and Writing, a cross-out tool for answer choices, a notepad, and the calculator and reference sheet for Math. Practice tests also have Mark for Review. Hover over an icon to see its name.

Highlight text

The highlighter works on Reading and Writing questions: the passage, the question and the answer choices.

  1. Select some text with your mouse.
  2. Pick one of the 3 colors that appear above it.

To remove a highlight, select the highlighted text again and click the trash icon, Remove highlight.

To skip the color step, click the highlighter icon, Enable Auto Highlight. Text you select is then highlighted right away. You can also highlight text in lessons.

Cross out answer choices

The cross-out tool is off until you turn it on, which is why it can look missing.

  1. Click the crossed-out S icon at the top of the question, Enable Elimination.
  2. Click the ✕ to the right of any answer choice you've ruled out. It fades, gets a line through it and can't be selected.
  3. To bring a choice back, click its ✕ again.

The tool stays on for your next questions until you turn it off. It works on multiple-choice questions, not on questions where you type your answer. In a study session, it locks once you've checked your answer.

Mark for Review

In a practice test, click Mark for Review at the top left to flag a question to come back to. It changes to Marked. Click again to unmark it.

On a computer, open the question list at the bottom of the test to jump to any question in the module. Each question shows ✓ if you've answered it or ○ if you haven't, and a bookmark icon if you've marked or bookmarked it. On the last question, Review there takes you to the first question you haven't answered.

Your marks stay if you close the test and come back.

Other tools

  • Calculator and Reference sheet: on every Math question. See Use the Desmos calculator.
  • Notepad: a window for scratch notes on a computer. Your notes stay with each question.
  • Hide: hides the clock until you click Show clock. In a practice test, you still get a warning when less than 5, 2 and 1 minutes are left.
  • Add to collection: bookmarks the question for later. See Use the Error Log, bookmarks and collections.
  • Something look off?: reports a problem with the question.
  • Enter full screen: hides your browser's tabs and bars.

Aniko has no zoom button. Use your browser's zoom instead, such as Ctrl and + (Cmd and + on a Mac).

On a phone, study sessions and practice tests move most tools into More options (the 3 dots) at the top of the question: Enable Elimination, Enable Auto Highlight, Calculator, Reference Sheet and Bookmark. Mark for Review and Pause stay on screen. The notepad and the question list are on computers only. The free question bank keeps its tools on screen.

How these match Bluebook

Bluebook is College Board's app for the digital SAT, and Aniko isn't affiliated with College Board. Bluebook lists its testing tools as a timer you can hide, a Desmos calculator, a reference sheet, Highlights & Notes, Mark for Review, a Line Reader, an Option Eliminator, a Question Menu and zoom.

Aniko has all of them except the line reader and a zoom button. Notes work differently: Aniko has a separate notepad. Bluebook lets you hide its timer until 5 minutes remain, then alerts you. Aniko warns you then too, but keeps the clock hidden until you show it.

Frequently asked questions
