Is Aniko safe for my teen?
Updated
Aniko is built for students aged 13 and up, with a parent or guardian involved for anyone under 18. It shows no ads, designs public profiles to be anonymous, has no private messages between students and never makes AI tutor chats public. Here's what your teen shares, who can see it and what keeps the community in check.
Who it's for
Students must be at least 13 to create an account. From 13 to 17, a parent or legal guardian agrees to the Terms of Service for them, supervises their use and is responsible for the account and any payments. See Aniko for parents.
No ads
Aniko doesn't show ads, and we never sell personal data. Your teen's answers, scores, AI tutor chats and study activity are never used to measure our own advertising. See How does Aniko use my data?
What other people see
Each student has a public study profile that anyone on the internet can see. It shows their nickname, status, profile picture, SAT date, score estimate, study progress, practice test results and study plan. Their nickname and picture also appear on the Leaderboard, and the activity feed shows other students things like a finished practice test and its score.
The profile is designed to be anonymous, and it's only as anonymous as what your teen puts on it. Help them pick a nickname and an avatar rather than their real name and photo, with nothing identifying in their status. Their email address and any legal name they give for the Score Guarantee are never shown.
There's no setting to make a profile private or hide scores, so a nickname and avatar that reveal nothing about your teen are the way to keep it anonymous.
Rules and moderation
- No private messages. Students can post short messages and replies in the activity feed, which other students can see. There's no way to message a student privately on Aniko.
- Checks before posting. Nicknames, statuses, profile pictures and activity feed messages are checked before they appear, to keep inappropriate content off Aniko.
- Clear rules. The Terms ban bullying, harassment, impersonation and hateful or inappropriate content. Breaking them can lead to a warning or a ban from Aniko.
To report another student, email hello@aniko.ai with their nickname and what happened.
The AI tutor
The AI tutor explains SAT questions, answers questions about your teen's plan and helps them plan their studying. Like any tutor, it can make mistakes. See What can the AI tutor do?
Its chats aren't public: other students and human tutors can't see them. See Who can see my chats with the AI tutor?
The AI tutor isn't a counselor. If your teen is struggling, Where to get help if you're struggling lists helplines and people to talk to.
Discord and Reddit
Aniko has communities on Discord and Reddit. They're optional: your teen doesn't need them to study on Aniko. They run on those platforms, which have their own terms and privacy practices. Questions about an account or billing should go to hello@aniko.ai rather than a community, so they stay private.
Frequently asked questions
No. Aniko has no private messages between students. Messages in the activity feed are visible to other students, and they're checked before they appear.
Not through a parent view: Aniko doesn't have one. The chats are in your teen's account, so you can read them together.
Aniko isn't for children under 13. Email hello@aniko.ai, and we'll act promptly to review or delete their data.
